Field Marks

Long, decurved bill, dark eye, pale throat, dark gray-brown plumage, belly and undertail coverts rusty, long dark tail, dark legs. Sexes similar.

Similar species

Le Conte's Thrasher is paler and lacks rusty undertail coverts. California Thrasher has a paler supercilium and darker cheeks. The ranges of California and Crissal Thrashers do not overlap much. Other thrashers have spotted underparts and pale eyes.

Found near desert streams in dense underbrush, and in the low desert near canyon chaparral.
